"Kaine Lanyon was our master of ceremonies swapping his usual Port Phillip stomping ground for another bayside locale to conduct this Sandringham auction on Saturday. Kaine gave a thorough spiel, outlining the home's great location on the Acorn Patch, and highlighting the property's great renovation by Roger Boxtel. Preliminaries out of the way, Kaine searched for an opening bid from the crowd of around 40. Wondering if it might indeed be Remembrance Day (it was that quiet!), Kaine instead opened on a vendor bid of $1,650,000. It didn't take long for one interested party to enter the bidding, then another, and we soon had a two-way battle on our hands. Bidding stalled at $1,715,000 at which point the highest bidder was whisked inside for further negotiations." (Jen Milligan)
Biggest Sale: SANDRINGHAM, 66 Victoria St
James Paynter (Hodges); Under Hammer, $3,500,000 - 3 Bidders "An amazing Sandringham house in a popular street, and a decent sized crowd of around 50 had turned up to see what would happen at auction on Saturday. James Paynter was in charge and, after a succinct preamble, quickly accepted an opening bid from the crowd of $2,900,000. Two more bidders soon joined in and the price rose steadily to $3,350,000 where the property was declared on the market. From there, two bidders fought it out until the hammer came down at $3,500,000 to the applause of the crowd - and a few thrilled neighbours who yelled "welcome to the neighbourhood!"" (Jen Milligan)
Biggest Pass In: BRIGHTON, 5 Wallace Gr
Jason Gill (Hodges); Passed In: $2,150,000 - 0 Bidders "In the heart of Brighton, not far from the beach with it's famous bathing boxes, this street is a secluded, tranquil retreat. Number 5 is also a secluded retreat with that huge block and everything it has to offer. What a beautiful family home!
Auctioneer Jason Gill provided a clear and concise introduction and called for offers. The 40 onlookers were struck dumb! Not a sound to be be heard in this very, very, quiet street!
Half time came and went. Still no offers. Having placed an earlier opening vendor bid of $2,100,000 Jason stated that if there were no offers he would pass in the property on a further vendor bid of $2,150,000. There was no response and accordingly he tabled another vendor bid. Subsequently he advised our auction reporter that he was confident of an early sale and that he would advise us if developments occurred." (David James)
