"As the north sun peeped through the fog, the crowd of 70 waited patiently for auctioneer Peter Kennett to commence the auction. Running late from another auction didn't stop him from taking his time to espouse the benefits of this prime location and then enjoying some banter with a very young blues supporter in the crowd. A lengthy delay to the start of the auction yes, but at least Peter was entertaining! Anyway, back to the real reason we were here - the auction started with a vendor bid of $2,600,000 and was passed in to a crowd bidder soon after. Bought after auction for an undisclosed amount. "This auction was a quiet affair. Very quiet indeed! Three large blocks with hill top views, but not a single bid for any of them. In the small crowd of barely 20 people there were several builder/developer types and perhaps they will contact Hocking Stuart after the auction. After the usual preliminaries were completed, Steve Tickell declared that the three blocks would be sold separately and he invited bids for No. 497. No bids resulted so Steve passed in the block on a vendor bid of $1,000,000. The same thing happened with No 495 which was also passed in on a vendor bid of $1,000,000. The third block, No. 493, slightly larger, produced no bids and this was also passed in on a vendor bid but for $1,050,000. " (David James)
