On a cold day, in front of a cool crowd, auctioneer Andrew Hayne went on the front foot in a bold effort to fire things up. ‘You've all been coached by your friends and family about how to bid at auctions. Everyone thinks they are an expert in real estate.’ He still required a vendor bid of $1,500,000 to get things running though. Mr Hayne then surprised everyone by theatrically pretending to go inside for half-time discussions, and held a mock conversation with himself on the driveway. Was he going mad? Of course not, he got a genuine bid, a modest $10,000 advance. Enough to pass in for negotiations.
