2 Munro Street, BRIGHTON
BOUGHT* - $1,042,000
As the winter weather started to bite, auctioneer Peter Kennett pointed out that this was the last Saturday for a few weeks to secure a property at auction. Ripe for renovation within a heritage precinct, this property had garnered a lot of interest and the bidding started strong and was soon into the $900,000s, which is what the agent had quoted. Owned by the same family since 1964, the last year Melbourne won the premiership apparently, the fortunes for this house looked to be better. On the market at $920,000, the first bidder to raise his hand thought he had the property in the bag, but as a third bidder decided to join in, this auction was far form over. Despite bids in increments of $2500, $2000 and even $1000, the property reached the princely sum of $1,000,000 yet still the fun wasn't finished. Determination drove the two bidders on and the house was eventually sold for $1,042,000, a price quite a bit above the agent quoted range.
