99 Martin Street, BRIGHTON
PASSED IN - $2,250,000
I arrive here thinking that this auction will provide a market test of a good family home in Brighton talking early to mid $2 millions. Auctioneer Julian Augustini, who per kilogram or per centimetre must be Brighton's best auctioneer, is conducting proceedings on this Jason Gill marketed home. Crowd is around 50 and there feels like there may be a bidder or two in attendance - it feels just 'OK', not 'dead' like a few other auctions I have attended recently. Anyway, after a brief delay while the vendor was found, we are away. A good solid opening spiel from Julian was followed with the call for bids but nothing was forthcoming and so a vendor bid was made at $2,250,000. Julian commented that "this is a nice and easy start" and called for $50,000 bids but the crowd doesn’t agree. Things are kept moving along, good pathos, good suggestion bids but still nothing and a half time break was called. Julian and the team return to find the crowd still not wanting to participate and the obligatory pass-in occurs. No sale afterwards and the feel of interest I had at the start proves to be off the mark for now.
