This was once a fairly standard period home, but it has been transformed by an architect with a very clear vision. I do not know who the architect is, but I admire the work. What could have been a plain Jane renovation is now something genuinely interesting.
Importantly, the past has not been erased. The original home still sits underneath the thinking.
The feeling throughout is openness, and achieving that within this type of structure would have required real intellect and restraint.
Upstairs is the standout. The ceiling treatment is remarkable and completely changes the experience of the space. I have not seen many done this well.
Downstairs, the living areas connect beautifully to the side garden through large openings and natural light. The master bedroom perhaps leans a little too far into openness, but overall the execution is thoughtful.
A very clever reworking of an older home.
