James Home Rating: 600 | September 2026
This is a case where the building isn’t that flash, but the location is AAA.
Sussex Street is about as good as it gets in Brighton, and that is the real story here. The home itself is dated, spread over three levels and has no lift, so there are some obvious compromises.
Being on the south side of an east-west road also means the natural light is not going to be a major strength.
But this is where price becomes important. If you can buy it at the right level and find a smart way to renovate it, I can see how this could become a very good home. The fundamentals are there, but you need to be comfortable taking on the work.
The three levels and lack of a lift are worth thinking about carefully. I’m not sure where you would realistically put a lift, so for some buyers the answer may simply be that you’re happy living with the stairs.
This isn’t a walk-in, nothing-to-do property. There is work required, but when the location is this good, it can justify taking on a few compromises.
