34 Foam Street, Elwood — James Home Rating Snapshot

Overall Rating: 749 / 1000
Type: High-quality, architecturally edgy townhouse
Status: Rare bird

The Short Take (What Matters Most)

This is one of those homes that quietly gets almost everything right — and keeps doing so over time.

I’ve been involved with this property twice before, which is rare in itself, and coming back through it again confirms the same thing: it has aged well. The architecture still feels sharp. The layout still works. And the location has only strengthened.

For a four-bedroom Elwood townhouse, this is about as complete as it gets.

Why It Works

Architecture & Feel

  • Still has that cutting-edge, Federal-inspired edge without feeling dated

  • Excellent flow around a central indoor–outdoor living zone

  • Pool is well positioned — not an afterthought

  • Multiple courtyards = light, separation, and flexibility

Layout & Separation

  • Three bedrooms upstairs

  • Flexible fourth bedroom or study downstairs

  • Strong zoning — togetherness when you want it, separation when you need it

  • Works for families now and later

Utility

  • Double garage

  • Studio above the garage — brilliant for work-from-home, teens, or guests

  • That extra layer of flexibility is gold in Elwood

Position, Position… Position

Foam Street is simply one of Elwood’s best micro-locations:

  • Beach at one end

  • Village, cafés, and daily life at the other

  • Beautiful street, minimal compromise

  • Northern light to the main living zones despite the east–west orientation

This is one of those streets buyers don’t argue about.

Any Downsides?

Honestly — very few.

  • No obvious design or livability flaws

  • No meaningful location negatives

  • No compromise that matters at this level

Which is exactly why it scores where it does.

Final Word (Mal Call)

This is a total gem in a tightly held pocket.

A lot to like.
Very little to fault.
And the kind of home that makes sense both emotionally and logically.

If you’re buying in Elwood and this fits your budget — this is one you take seriously.
